The great sport of LaCrosse has been played for many years in North America. It is a demanding, highly skilled sport that is fun to play, combining endurance and skill.

The Girls program began in 2006. Through the years we’ve been blessed with many highly skilled, extremely motivated players- some earning All State honors.

There have been three Head Coaches, and I’ve worked with the other two. I was hired in 2014 to be the JV Coach. I have been a JV Coach for 3 years, a Varsity Assistant for 4 years(some crossover as JV and Assistant) and am currently the Varsity Head Coach.

Caledonia has won 3 Conference Championships in its 14 years of existence, including 2019, the last season we were able to compete and my first as Head Coach. Our 2019 team was also Academic All State, as well as 4 of the players.

With the return of many very skilled, experienced players, and an All State Goalie, we were ready to compete to repeat as Conference Champions in 2020, but the season was lost due to the pandemic. We still have many players with experience, and great abilities returning for our 2021 season, but we can always use more.

Our program is based on tradition, community, and family. We happily welcome any new players and will help you progress in our great sport. Of course we promote the importance of maintaining excellence in the classroom, in school, and in the community. Unlike the other high school sports, there are only about 90 programs for Girls LaCrosse, in the state, making available many opportunities after high school.

We want to help our players to be successful in all their interests. We have a very positive, family atmosphere. Please consider joining our LaCrosse program. It will be one of the best choices you can make.

Caledonia Girls Soccer has been a Varsity sport since around 1990. As the school has grown over the years, so has the prominence of the program. Beginning with Brian Broekhuizen who began both the boys and girls soccer programs for Caledonia, the girls program has seen Jeff Merritt, Steve Sanxter and now myself (Paul Kramer since 2019) be the Head Coach for the Varsity team. The program has won OK Conference titles, a district championship and reached a regional final (2013). The program has had alumni move on to continue their playing & academic careers at many prominent schools; Michigan, Oakland, CMU, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Davenport, Spring Arbor, Aquinas, Cornerstone and Hope just to name a few.

The program was looking to field its most competitive team in a few years in the Spring of 2020 with 13 seniors on the roster and 10 of those returning starters. Unfortunately due to Covid, we did not get the chance to have a season. One of the highlights of 2019 was fielding a freshman girls team within the program, the first time that had happened in over a decade. As part of the OK Red conference (highest enrollment schools in the area), it was nice to see Caledonia join the ranks of its fellow conference schools in fielding a freshman team and show the growth of our program.

As a program, we want hard-working players that have a team-first mentality. These are student-athletes who want to thrive in the classroom as well as on the pitch. We want to prepare these individuals for not only how to be good soccer players and teammates, but for the real world after high school and their playing days are over.

Come be a part of Lady Cal Soccer next season and add to the legacy of this proud program!!

Schertzing, Kaylie

My name is Kaylie Schertzing and this will be my first year as the Head Coach for Caledonia's Varsity softball team. I will be stepping into the role after Tom Kaechele retired last year after leading the program for 19 years. The softball program began in 1977 and has a great amount of success historically, with many impressive accomplishments in the past few years. The team has accumulated four Conference Championships, eight District Championships, and two Regional Championships. In 2015 the team was the runner up in the Division I State Championship. And just three years later in 2018, the softball program won its first State Championship title.

While the softball team is highly competitive, the ultimate goal of the program is to use our game to help develop athletes into hard-working, resilient, team-oriented leaders in the school and greater community. Because softball is a sport where athletes fail more than they succeed, we strive to cultivate an environment that encourages our athletes to take risks and learn to embrace failure, not as a bad thing, but as an opportunity for growth. Our program prioritizes values such as teamwork and selflessness because we recognize that each player's success is dependent on those around her as well as the culture of the team as a whole. It is our hope that throughout their Caledonia Softball experience the players have not only improved and refined their skills, but that they have grown into young women of character and integrity when they step off the field after they leave our program. We would love for you to join our team!

Ben Howell

Track & Field is a spring sport at CHS that involves running, jumping, and throwing!

My name is Ben Howell and I have had the privilege of being a coach on the CHS T&F team for the past 16 years, the last two as the head coach.  In T&F we offer a multitude of events so there is something for everyone to try.   I think the skills developed in our sport extend far beyond our season.   Girls that are a part of our team soon learn our driving principles contained within "EAT".  The "E" is for effort.  We keep track of times, distance, and heights, but ultimately a student-athlete's effort is far more valuable than any mark or time they achieve.  The "A" stands for attitude.  We strive for and challenge everyone on the team to have a positive attitude everyday.  This becomes contagious and drives everyone towards more success.  And finally, the "T" stands for team, and that is the most important part.  When student-athletes realize that they are not individuals but part of a collective whole representing their school and each other, great things happen.  When all actions are viewed through the lens of the team, the family feel inspires these young ladies to push themselves beyond what they thought possible, while also creating bonds between teammates that extend for life.   We look forward to having fun together each and every day; that is what sports are about!

If you are looking to become a part of our track and field "family" please check out our website
