Boys & Girls State

The Boys State and Girls State programs are non-partisan, non-political mock government exercises designed to mirror the structure and operation of its respective state government. They are intended to instill character, the importance of civic engagement and patriotism among rising high school seniors.

Boys State

CHS is seeking JUNIORS interested in attending BOYS STATE this summer. 

Boys State is a non-partisan, non-political mock government, intended to instill character and the importance of civic engagement and patriotism among rising high school seniors. Attendees learn firsthand about leadership, practical citizenship and the democratic process. 

The program takes place over the week of June 12-18, 2022, at Grand Valley State's Allendale Campus, and is a GREAT addition to college and scholarship applications! 

Each day is filled with activities including:

  • speaker presentations
  • party and city meetings
  • campaigns
  • elections
  • recreation time
  • band and chorus

The American Legion will cover the cost for at least 1 student to attend.  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Pearson in Student Services (pearsons@calschools.org) for a link to the application. Applications will be due in February. 

 

Girls State

CHS is seeking JUNIORS interested in attending GIRLS STATE this summer. 

Girls State is a non-partisan, non-political mock government, intended to instill character and the importance of civic engagement and patriotism among rising high school seniors. Attendees learn firsthand about civics and American government in a fast-paced, interactive program of campaigning, debating, voting, and electing mock local and state leaders. 

The program takes place over the week of June 12-17, 2022, Virtually, and is a GREAT addition to college and scholarship applications!

  • campaigns
  • elections
  • recreation time
  • band and chorus

The Alto American Legion Axillary will cover the cost for at least 1 female to attend. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Pearson in Student Services (pearsons@calschools.org) for a link to the application. Applications will be due in February.
