Bond 2023

Thank you to the Caledonia community for supporting the 2023 School Bond. This investment allows Caledonia Community Schools to move forward with critical facility improvements, including replacing Dutton Elementary, upgrading buildings and technology, and enhancing athletic and parking facilities. These projects reflect our commitment to responsible planning, transparency, and creating safe, modern learning environments for our students—now and for the future.

Duncan Lake Middle School Improvements Begin This Spring

Duncan Lake Middle School will soon see more exciting improvements as part of Caledonia Community Schools’ ongoing bond work.  Construction is scheduled to begin over Spring Break and will continue in phases through Summer 2027.

The first portion of work will focus on an extensive renovation of the cafeteria, kitchen, and serving areas.  The cafeteria will be expanded, with renovated finishes and reworked serving areas to improve flow and better support busy lunch periods.  Also included in this work will be the replacement of the DLMS activity entrance.  These improvements are scheduled for completion by next winter.

Another aspect of the updates will be the replacement of the metal panels (including removal of the teal stripe) around the building.  The final aspect of the work at DLMS will be the addition of a canopy for the “alley” leading to the activity entrance.  Construction of the canopy will take place during the spring and summer of 2027.

Because some of the renovation work will occur during the school year, certain areas will be closed periodically.  Further information will be provided to students and families as work progresses.

Cal-Plex Phase II

This summer, Caledonia Community Schools will continue bond-funded improvements at Cal-Plex as part of the district’s commitment to completing items promised in the 2023 bond program. Cal-Plex serves as an important hub for student activities and community youth sports, and these upgrades are designed to support safer access, improved functionality, and long-term growth.

A major focus of this work is completing Phase II of the facility as originally envisioned in 2009, made possible through the development of an additional 20 acres that were provided to the district by Caledonia Township. This expansion will allow for improved use of space and better accommodate the growing needs of our programs and community groups.

Planned improvements include the addition of new, flexible, open field spaces, along with a significant increase in parking capacity. These upgrades will also include improvements to traffic flow and overall safety, helping create a better experience for families, students, and visitors during busy event times.

In addition to expanding the site, the district will be reinvesting in existing areas of the Cal-Plex to ensure the facility remains well-maintained and ready to serve the community for years to come. As part of the site preparation, the dirt “mountain” behind the Cal Community Center will also be removed. Additional improvements include a new electrical service, site lighting, and lights for one baseball field.

This work is being completed in close partnership with the Caledonia Youth Sports Association (CYSA), with a shared focus on flexibility and thoughtful planning that remains mindful of future growth.
