Effective Tuesday, September 8, 2020 your child can receive a free breakfast and a free lunch at school.

We have exciting news to share with you regarding the school meal service being provided for your child.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced schools will be able to serve free meals to all children through June 28, 2021.  This unprecedented move will help ensure – no matter what the situation is on-the-ground – children have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

It remains critical our children continue to receive safe, healthy, and nutritious food. This will ensure meals are reaching all children – whether they are learning in the classroom or virtually – so they are fed and ready to learn, even in new and ever-changing learning environments.

If your child is participating in virtual learning, five (5) free breakfasts and five (5) free lunches will be available for pick up in the rear of the Duncan Lake Middle School every Monday from 9:15 A.M. – 10:15 A.M. starting September 21 and will continue throughout the school year.

We hope this news helps all Caledonia families.  There is a new menu posted on the district website under Food Service.

We look forward to serving your children.

Press Release - 8/27/20

On Tuesday, Caledonia Community Schools (CCS) became aware of a student with symptoms consistent with COVID-19. This student did not attend the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 25, but was in close contact with other CCS students the weekend prior to the start of school. Out of an abundance of caution, CCS immediately contacted the parents of all potentially affected students and asked them to self-quarantine until they could receive further instructions from the Kent County Health Department.

The student has since tested positive for COVID-19. Three additional students who came in contact with this student last weekend also tested positive. A staff member who came in contact with the student prior to the start of school began to show symptoms and has also been asked to self-quarantine. Three students did attend the first day of school but have been in self-quarantine since Tuesday afternoon. The staff member is also a relative of one of the students and has been in self-quarantine since Tuesday afternoon.

In an effort to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and as required by CDC guidelines, all pertinent information and additional close contacts have been turned over to the Kent County Health Department. If your student is considered a close contact, the Kent County Health Department will contact you.

Due to HIPAA and FERPA laws, we cannot disclose detailed information that may expose personal identifiable information. However, we have contacted the parents of the students that were in close contact with the students who have tested positive. Any staff that may have had contact with the staff member who tested positive has also been notified.

We continue to partner with the Kent County Health Department and follow their guidelines and requirements. We are also thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the school building. Again as a reminder, we ask that everyone monitor their children for the onset of symptoms related to COVID-19 daily. If you notice any change in the health of your child, please call your medical provider first. Please withhold your child from school for that day and contact the building administration team. We will keep you apprised of this situation and will be providing updates as the situation develops. On behalf of CCS, we wish our students and staff members a speedy recovery and we hope all our CCS families, students and staff can stay safe and healthy.

The results of the School Re-entry Parent Survey are included in the report below. The purpose of this survey with all of our Caledonia parents was to understand how to best serve our students moving forward as we consider how school should re-open in the Fall. Each of the 20 local school districts in Kent County also conducted this same survey.
