Safety & Security

At Caledonia Community Schools, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority. In 2024, we adopted the Standard Response Protocols (SRPs), developed by The “I Love U Guys” Foundation, to enhance preparedness and ensure clear communication during emergencies. These protocols provide a standardized response language for various emergency situations and are recognized statewide for ensuring a coordinated response.

Our Commitment to Safety

We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our entire school community. Over the years, we have taken significant steps to enhance safety across the district.

In 2024, we implemented the Raptor Visitor Management System in all our buildings. This system enhances the safety of students and staff by:

  • Visitor Check-In: Visitors must show a Driver’s License or State-Issued ID.
  • Safety Screening: The Raptor system checks names against a national database of registered sex offenders.
  • Visitor Badges: Cleared visitors receive a badge with their name, date, and purpose of visit, which must be worn throughout their stay.
  • Large Events: Alternate sign-in methods are used for large events during school hours.

Thanks to our community's support through several bond initiatives, we have completed significant safety and security upgrades:

  • Installation of security hardware and film at several buildings.
  • Construction of secure vestibules for controlled entry at all of our buildings.
  • Addition of the CHS Connector, enhancing student movement between facilities.

Our district has made substantial investments in emergency preparedness and response:

  • Regular Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) updates and staff training.
  • Ongoing partnerships with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and Secure Education Consultants to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies.
  • Active School Resource Officer (SRO) and Safety & Security Director overseeing district-wide safety initiatives.

We believe that a prepared and informed community is a safer one. To achieve this, we:

  • Conduct regular emergency preparedness training for staff and students, including evacuation and reunification plans.
  • Partner with local law enforcement for training and security protocol reviews.
  • Engage in proactive communication with Secure Education Consultants to assess and improve safety measures.
